Enso Sub-Collection, The Landscapes:
This body of work is a dalogue between precision and release—a rigorous exploration of the “flow state” born from necessity. When the demands of motherhood required a shift from complex, maximalist renderings to a more grounding and portable medium, I turned to the Enso. Inspired by Audrey Yoshiko Seo’s Enso: Zen Circles of Enlightenment, what began as a one-year ritual evolved into a three-year study exceeding 900 pieces. It served as a centering moment within the chaotic intersection of childhood and domesticity, maturing from a grounding ritual into a masterclass in minimalism.
Across this collection, the Enso reimagines an ancient tradition through contemporary media and 2D variables. The practice enters into a silent dialogue with the Abstract Expressionist movement; where Jackson Pollock used “action painting” and deliberate drips to record explosive physical movement, these landscapes use micro-lines as a record of “the action of recess.” Each shimmering horizontal line and rhythmic “wormhole” pattern acts as visual shorthand for sound and light waves, capturing the subtle energy required to bridge minimalist ritual with a high-energy visual field. By knowing when a form is simple yet complete, these works offer a moment of stillness—a transition from the maximalist to the essential.

The Landscapes: Resonance on White
This series of Enso represents a technical and spiritual inquiry into the intersection of minimalist ritual and modern physical phenomena.
Executed on white paper using a combination of traditional Sumi ink, gold and iridescent inks, and precision gold pen, each circle serves as a focal point for an unfolding environment.
The radiating horizontal lines that ground these celestial forms are reminiscent of modern “wormhole” patterning, acting as a visual shorthand for the movement of sound, light, and gravitational waves. These undulating horizons capture the natural expansions and contractions of energy as it emanates from a central point, changing and reacting as it progresses through the deepening void of the page

The Landscapes: Resonance on Gray
While much of my Enso collection focuses on pure abstraction, the Enso Landscapes is a Sub-Collection—that transition into the “neo-futurist” landscapes of the mind. In these pieces, the circular Enso transforms into symbolic celestial bodies, evoking the quiet power of a harvest moon or the final, vibrant glow of a sunset against a deepening void.
Oceanic Undulations: The horizontal lines in these compositions act as undulating horizons, reminiscent of vast ocean vistas. These rhythmic, wave-like forms capture the natural expansions and contractions of the tide, grounding the celestial circles within a familiar, liquid landscape.
The Visual Form of Time and Space: These radiating ripples and drips capture the natural energy found in a single moment of creation. They mirror the “drip” found in street art and the fluid motion of digital graphics, while simultaneously evoking planetary orbits and the invisible pull of gravity.
Modern Contrast: High-frequency neons and reflective metallics pop against the deep black substrate, creating a high-energy focal point for contemplation that bridges the gap between ancient tradition and a contemporary, 80s-inspired energy.
